Wedding Shoes: Pro Tips : There is no perfect set of shoes. Everyone’s personal preference is different. Your shoes will differ based on your comfort, how high a heel you want, what color shoe you would like and what’s available in the market when you are searching. Is there a way to choose the perfect pair of wedding shoes? There are many ways to make sure that you put your best foot forward (pun unintended!). I can’t say that I’m a pro at it but I’ve definitely learnt from what worked for some and what didn’t work for others. I’ve found the following tips invaluable. In fact, I even used them at my own wedding.
- Buy Two Pairs Of Shoes : You will also quickly realise that no matter how great your band is, the song that is played will not match the original perfectly because every artist tries to put their own spin on it. This may (or may not) make you nervous. While you can’t control your surroundings, the music or much else, the one thing that you do have control of is the shoes you wear. Which is why paying attention to your footwear is important. I would recommend buying two pairs of the same shoes. Sometimes it’s difficult to do that because wedding shoes are expensive, you have got them custom made or you snagged the last pair on the shelf (Lucky you!). In these situations your best bet is to try and get a second pair that is similar to your wedding shoes. This way you can practice in one of the pairs before the wedding so you are comfortable in the pair you don on the actual day. That way when you get ready to start off with your first dance, the shoes will give you that extra bit of confidence you need to set the floor on fire.
- Have A Backup Pair Of Wedding Shoes : People lose their soles at their weddings. Pun totally intended! The problem that quite a few people face is that their shoes snap, break or split apart and this happens more often than you would realise. That’s why I always suggest having a backup pair of wedding shoes on hand. Now this could be your second pair of wedding shoes that you’ve practiced in or something more comfortable just to dance in.

- Break Your Shoes In : Everyone knows that new shoes can cause nasty shoe bites. This is definitely one of the things that you want to avoid on your wedding day. The best way to avoid discomfort is to break in your shoes. You can do this by wearing your shoes for half an hour a day for a week or two before your wedding. Wearing your shoes will also help you understand just how comfortable you are in them. It will give you a chance to change them if they make you uncomfortable. I would however advise against practicing and dancing in your shoes because they tend to show wear and tear. Generally this is due to the fact that most people practice a lot before their wedding. You could however have one or two practice runs in it just to get comfortable. If you’ve read this article too late and forgot to break shoes in or no matter how much you try, your shoes still rub you the wrong way. In this case more pain does not necessarily mean more gain. I have a solution for you. BOOB TAPE! I carry it around just for emergencies like this. IT IS A LIFESAVER! A small bit taped around problematic areas can prevent you from hobbling through the night. This tip is aimed at both the ladies and the gents because shoe bites don’t discriminate.
- Get An Additional Pair Of Socks : Many men tend to go down the rabbit hole when it comes to getting their shoes. Often when you do find the perfect pair of shoes but they can be a tiny bit loose. Sometimes the best way to make it fit perfectly is by using a second layer of socks. It sounds unorthodox but it works. This is because no one will really notice that you have a second pair on and the shoes will feel like a perfect fit.
While paying attention to the numerous details of your wedding is something that can demand your focus, you can now see why paying attention to your wedding shoes is just as important. A comfortable pair of shoes with a back up pair should be in your wedding kit. You can keep your backup pair of shoes in the car or with someone else you trust. It doesn’t matter. In the end it all depends on your location, the people around you and your personal preference.\\
Wedding shoes are often the cause of a lot of concern both for the bride and the groom as they should be! I can attest to this because this was something that bothered me during my wedding planning too! Working as a wedding photographer means that I’ve spent quite a few hours alongside couples in their planning phase. That’s not counting the wedding itself. I’ve been privy to the mistakes that many people make when it comes to their wedding heels.
Interestingly enough, your wedding shoes can either make or break your day. It is also one of the areas of the wedding planning that people pay the least attention to which is sad because it’s such an easy fix. Not everyone realises this but the shoes that you wear at your wedding have the potential to determine your comfort level throughout the day. Pause for a moment and consider this. It’s your wedding day. You’ve got all your guests assembled and you arrive at the venue or church. No matter how many times you have walked the path or visited the venue, you will find that being the center of attention can be stressful.
At this point, you will crave for something that is familiar. Here is where your shoes come in. If you are comfortable in them, you will find that not only is it one less thing to worry about, it will serve as a source of comfort on the day.
